PXG Wildcat golf clubs aim to bring enjoyment back into the game

Published

on

What you need to know: PXG is aiming the Wildcat series of golf clubs at players who are looking to enjoy the game more. With forgiveness and ease of launch as the main focus of the design, golfers will enjoy hitting straighter, higher, and more consistent shots at a price everyone will love. And don’t think that the attractive price made PXG cut corners on these clubs, there is plenty of familiar technology packed into the whole line. From driver to putter the Wildcat golf clubs create a cohesive playing system to make the game fun. PXG will have these clubs in-store so you can get fit for length, lie, flex, shaft, and grip, or they are available online.

Wildcat driver

Utilizing Ti-811 titanium in the body and a high-strength titanium face insert the Wildcat driver should produce great ball speed across the face. PXG engineered the Wildcat driver with a higher loft (16 degrees) and shorter length (44 inches) to promote higher confidence in hitting straight and long drives. The face is large as is the footprint from address but the driver fits right in with the looks of the current Black Ops woods.

Wildcat fairway, hybrid

PXG used AM355 high-strength steel for the bodies of the fairway and hybrid irons for strength and stiffness. Both clubs feature a thin HT1770 steel face for producing great ball speed with on and off center shots. Engineers removed the adjustable hosels in order to save weight for use in the head to help promote higher launch and more stability. There is some added offset for helping the golfer time up their swing and hit it straighter.

Wildcat irons

Built from 431 stainless steel and featuring PXG’s Xcor2 polymer inside the irons are made for speed. The larger size and added offset should give the golfer plenty of added confidence. Power Channel is another PXG technology that was used in the Wildcat irons to create a face that flexes more while still keeping control and not creating fliers. A dual cavity design removes mass from the center of the club and out to the perimeter for added forgiveness on toe, heel, low, or high shots on the face.

Black Hawk putter

Looking a little like the Allan putter from address with its matte black body and silver site line. The mallet is pretty traditional looking from the top but is filled with technology by PXG engineers. The head has a cavity near the face that is filled with PXG’s own SCOR material for dialing in sound and feel while allowing weight to be moved elsewhere in the head. PXG’s Pyramid Face Pattern helps keep the roll consistent no matter where you make contact. If you flip the putter over you can see the new Pick Up Pocket that allows the golfer to pick up a golf ball without bending over. Not only does the Pick Up Pocket have its use with a golf ball, it also allows mass to be removed and used around the perimeter for added stability.

The nine-club Wildcat set includes a driver, 5-wood, 6-hybrid, 7-iron through sand wedge and putter and costs $1,499 (bag, hat, and one dozen golf balls are included with the set).Clubs can be purchased individually as well

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
