Cobra introduces new King wedges

Published

on

Cobra Golf has announced the launch of its new King and King-X wedges. King wedges leverage Metal Injection Molding (MIM) technology, Flight Window Technology (F.W.T.), and Progressive Spin Technology to deliver precise manufacturing, optimized ball flights, and exceptional control, according to a press release.

The MIM process allows for tighter manufacturing tolerances, resulting in a softer feel and more precise performance. Flight Window Technology adjusts the center of gravity (CG) based on loft — low for lower lofts, mid for mid-lofts, and high for higher lofts — to deliver optimal trajectories and spin control. Progressive Spin Technology fine-tunes groove designs across lofts, enhancing spin for various shots.

Chad DeHart, Senior Product Line Manager at Cobra Golf, highlighted the innovation behind the new wedges, stating:

“Achieving optimum spin and trajectory control on wedge shots is key to scoring. MIM technology helps us produce wedges with tighter tolerances for exceptional consistency, while F.W.T. allows for optimal CG location throughout the full range of lofts. Together the two technologies, with the addition of the new grind options, provide golfers the ultimate versatility in our most advanced wedges to date.”

The King wedges also feature a redesigned Speed Notch in the sole — 67 percent larger than in previous models — for improved turf interaction and cleaner contact. Four grind options (DROP, WIDELOW, VERSATILE, and TOUR) allow players to select the proper sole configuration for their playing style and course conditions.

Additionally, the King-X wedges cater to game improvement with a forgiving cavity-back design, a TPU insert for enhanced feel, and a deep undercut for perimeter weighting to improve stability on off-center hits.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
