Spotted: New TaylorMade Qi35 LS driver at the PNC Championship

Published

on

It seems that the PNC Championship isn’t only a tournament to see legends of the game play with their children, it is also a place to see some new golf gear! We spotted TaylorMade’s Qi35 LS driver in play at the event, which we assume will be the lowest-spinning Qi35 head in the yet-to-be-officially-announced lineup.

TaylorMade looks to be showing off the carbon fiber with the Qi35 as you can see a lot of grey carbon, with a matte finish, on the crown and sole of the club. The carbon face is there but we don’t see the “60 layer” description we have in the past, just the word “carbon.” Additionally, the scoring lines have been updated. TaylorMade isn’t releasing any details yet, so we aren’t sure what could be different with the face of this new driver.

It does, however, look like TaylorMade did away with the weight track we saw in the Stealth Plus and Qi10 LS drivers; now have two weights near the face. There is a third weight in the back of the head, so it looks like players will have a lot of adjustability options to dial in the Qi35 LS for their swing.

We can spot the TaylorMade Speed Pocket up near the face, as it has been a key piece of TaylorMade driver technology for years now. The crown looks to be similar to the Infinity Carbon Crown we saw last year in the Qi10, but in this version, we get to see the carbon fiber weave. The Infinity Carbon Crown gives a cleaner look to the driver’s head as the carbon wraps over the edges of the head so you only see the seem between carbon and titanium at the hosel. And speaking of the hosel, we look to have the same loft sleeve tip that was in the Qi10 and many drivers before that.

It will be exciting to see if we spot more TaylorMade drivers in play in the upcoming tournaments. We are also patiently waiting for the official details from TaylorMade on the new Qi35 drivers.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
