Spotted: Odyssey Prototype Ai-One, Ai-One Milled putters

Published

on

Odyssey had a plethora of new putters out at the Shriners Children’s Open this week. Both the Ai-One and Ai-One Milled models were well represented within these new offerings.

Odyssey Ai-One Milled Proto MC5.0

The MC5.0 looks like a head shape from the Eleven series with its long, tapering sides. This finish is also new for the Ai-One Milled and looks like a good alternative to the dark navy blue. There is a small slant neck on this shape for some added toe-hang and the forward weights on the sole should give it a more blade-like feel through the stroke.

Odyssey Ai-One Marksman Proto SS.0

The Marksman name is back in the Odyssey lineup after a short hiatus and the putter looks to be a blend with the #7. The top has a long Triple Track inspired site line but without the red, white, and blue color way on the golf ball. Just a single interchangeable weight in the sole that is pushed way back for adding stability to the putter.

Odyssey Ai-One Milled Proto MC2.0

The MC2.0 has a smooth rear section and very pronounced lines. It is like Odyssey took a hexagon and cut off the front third of it to make this putter. Odyssey’s famous triple dote site line is there and the gold sole plates and weights look classy on this mallet. A double bend shaft should make this small looking mallet pretty close to face-balanced.

Odyssey Ai-One Proto MC9.0

Even if the name on the sole says MC9.0 we will still call this putter the One Ball! The top has a single white ball with line for alignment and the shape is a little softer than the previous MC2.0 we just talked about. Twin movable weights are in the sole and pushed forward for a center of gravity that will be close to the face.

Odyssey Ai-One Milled Proto S6.o

I would love to know how this one was named as you would think C6.0 would be the better fit for a center shafted small mallet. There is a lot of mass behind the contact area on the center of the head. This could give the shaft a really solid feel when combined with the titanium Ai-One Milled face. The center shaft should make this putter face-balanced and great for the feel player.

Odyssey Ai-One Proto S2.1

There is a lot of older Odyssey influence in the look of this S2.1 putter. I can see some Sabertooth and Teron in the shaping of the outside of this putter. A single movable weight is far back in the head for higher MOI and added forgiveness on mishits. This larger mallet goes with a double bend shaft for a face-balanced feel and the traditional Ai-One urethane insert for a soft feel that doesn’t lose ball speed when struck outside of the center.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
