Spotted: 2025 Titleist Pro V1, Pro V1x golf ball seeding begins

Published

on

The year 2000 seems so far away, but it was then in Las Vegas, at the Invensys Classic where Titleist launched the first Pro V1 golf ball. Billy Andrade won the event with the new ball in play and, as they say, the rest is history.

This week, at the 2024 Shriners Children’s Open, we will see the newest Pro V1 and Pro V1x golf balls being tested and used by golf’s best players.

Keeping the Pro V1 the number one ball on tour has been a challenge that Titleist golf ball R&D has gladly taken on. Working directly with tour players since last September they have worked to fine-tune the next generation of Pro V1 and Pro V1x golf balls to ensure they meet and exceed the expectations of those players. Blending aerodynamics, engineering, materials research and analytical chemistry, research and intellectual property, product testing and analysis, and product development and implementation is not an easy thing to do. You also need to keep in mind that the ball needs to evolve as the equipment changes and players adapt.

According to Titleist, players have already been testing the new Pro V1 golf balls during September visits to the Titleist Performance Center at Manchester Lane (Massachusetts) and Titleist Performance Institute (California). In fact, at the Procore Championship, Hayden Springer (Pro V1) and Zac Blair (Pro V1x) put new models in play. Lee Hodges did the same with the Pro V1 at the Sanderson Farms Championship.

While Titleist might not get 47 players to switch into the new 2025 golf ball like they did at TPC Summerlin back in 2000, the range balls will all be the new version to give every player the chance to try the new golf ball. GolfWRX will be keeping tabs all week to see who is making the switch.

See what GolfWRXers are saying about the new Pro V1 and Pro V1x in the forums.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
