Callaway releases Xander Schauffele’s Apex TCB irons in limited run

Published

on

Callaway is celebrating Xander Schauffele’s incredible season by releasing the same irons he plays to the public. Two majors adds a ton of credibility to the Apex TCB and many pros trust these irons each week. The current Apex TCB irons that Xander uses are the second generation of the Tour Cavity Back (TCB) irons, the first was introduced in 2021.

Many golfers will look at the 2024 Apex TCB and think it is the Apex CB that you can find at your local golf shop. The initial looks and shape are similar with just a slight change in the cavity and “TCB” printed out on the toe. But there are a few distinct differences between the two.

1. Construction: Apex TCB irons are built using a forged 1025 body and cavity back for soft feel and increased responsiveness that skilled players demand. The face is made of 17-4 stainless steel that is tuned for spin consistency and control.

2. Shaping: If you like a more compact, blade like, look from address then the Apex TCB could be for you. This iron combines the looks of a blade with the playability of larger cavity back, helping with those less-than-perfect shots. The topline is also a little thinner and the irons have a shorter blade length from heel to toe.

3. Finish: Raw! Yes, these irons have a raw, unplated, finish that will rust and patina as you play them. Now the interesting part is that the face and small section of the sole will not rust as they are made from stainless steel. This is the exact same finish that Xander has on his Apex TCB set.

The only downside to this release is that Callaway is only making 1,000 sets so you will need to get yours quickly as they will sell out fast. Stock sets of the Apex TCB are 4-10 (Yes, the 10 iron is here!) with True Temper Dynamic Gold Mid 115 shafts. Of course you can custom order your Apex TCB with a wide range of shafts, grips, and specs. The price of these new Apex TCB is $215 per club, $1,505 for a 7-piece set.

Is the sold wider than the CB with higher bounce?

Limited run on the iron set almost every Callaway Staffer plays lol it’s honestly sad considering every other manufacture has everything in line at all times.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
