GolfWRX Deep Dive: GForce NXT-GEN swing trainers
In a world of seemingly endless training aids, self-styled swing gurus, and YouTube golf tips galore, one shortcut to separate the signal from the noise we lean on here at GolfWRX is to see what the best players in the world rely on to hone their skills, lock in swing actions and feels. Similarly, keeping an eye on the tools PGA Professionals actually put in the hands of their students.
GForce’s Swing Trainers have hit both those notes since the original product launch in 2016.

Designed to help golfers improve their tempo, timing, and rhythm, GForce’s flagship product has been the 7-iron swing trainer, which features a super flexible shaft. It’s this component that forces golfers to smooth out their swings and slow down their transitions, allowing them to better deliver the clubhead through the hitting area and feel a consistent, full release of the club while staying more consistenly on-plane. Significantly, we’ve also found it to be one of the best aids for quickly correcting the common “over-the-top” motion.

Now, GForce has leveled up with its new NXT-GEN, 7-iron, driver, and wedge swing trainers. Company founder, PGA Member, Stuart Small, was kind enough to take a deeper dive into all things GForce. Check out the full conversation below.
GolfWRX: Obviously, GForce has been on our radar for a while now. But in terms of what’s new, what can you tell us about the development of the NXT-GEN?
Stuart Small: With more PGA Tour players like Rory McIlroy and Minjee Lee using our swing trainers, my aim was to redesign the trainer to mirror the look, feel, and performance of their premium golf clubs, for a smoother transition from practice to play. The result is the NXT-GEN, which not only features a sleeker design, but importantly it now matches the weight of a standard weight club, which enhances timing, speed training and makes it easier to transfer feelings back over to your regular club.
GForce NXT-GEN is unique because it’s the only USGA legal training aid in the world that you can use to hit balls with legally on the course. So it can help you fine-tune your swing motion or rectify swing faults during a live-playing scenario — just take a few practice swings or hit some shots. It’s especially beneficial for golfers struggling under pressure, particularly the wedge if you suffer with the yips —it’s a game-changer!
However, it’s not just about picking up the trainer and swinging — following the proper training is key. With 32 years of experience as a PGA coach, I constantly expand my knowledge, during the NXT-GEN development I utilized the GEARS System to analyze the swing in 3D and created training videos based on these insights, offering a significant advantage to golfers looking to improve.

GolfWRX: Can you compare and contrast NXT-GEN offerings with earlier GForce models?
SS: The NXT-GEN model is a big step up from the original GFORCE model, with a more refined, tour-ready appearance and performance – it’s designed to feel just like your regular club, with USGA-conforming grooves, stainless-steel head, super flexible shaft, and a comfortable mid-size grip. Unlike most training aids, the NXT-GEN looks and feels like something you’d actually play golf with.
In contrast, the Original GFORCE looked more like a training aid, with a black game-improvement head, non-conforming grooves, and a thicker, heavier white rubber shaft. While effective for practice, the extra weight made transitioning back to a regular club more challenging because it felt like making two different swings.
In essence, the NXT-GEN offers all the training benefits with a quicker, easier transition from practice to play and a more versatile tool for golfers at any skill level.
GolfWRX: In an environment where there is no shortage of training aids for every conceivable swing fault, why should GolfWRXers be interested in GForce? What benefits will they see?
SS: Pete Cowen once said to me, “Don’t let golfers think it’s just another rhythmizer, it’s better than that…!”
Typically, golfers will benefit straight away with improved rhythm, tempo, and timing, the super flexible shaft forces you to smooth out your swing and synchronize your arms and body which will develop a better strike. But what sets GForce apart is its ability to address one of the most common and frustrating swing issues: Swing Path! As Pete Cowen pointed out, “To hit it straight, you must swing on plane,” and GForce helps players feel and correct their transition and swing path. If you tend to swing out-to-in or get stuck on the inside, the GForce will reveal it by sending your shots 50 yards off to the right—instant feedback you can act on quickly to correct it.
Pete Cowen is a big believer in getting the club in the correct “delivery position” so the first move down is critical for this, and using the GForce Swing Trainer along with the included training videos, you can learn to transition correctly, feel how to get the club on plane and into a better delivery position, improving strike, distance and direction control.
The world’s best players have exceptional timing, it’s like a finely-tuned car engine—if the timing is off, performance suffers. Many amateurs struggle with inconsistent play, and much of that comes down to poor timing. The GForce Swing Trainer is designed to fix that!
So not only does the GForce help you to be a better golfer by developing an effortless swing, but it also provides instant feedback from both the flexible shaft and the ball flight, acting like a personal coach. With the GForce Swing Trainer and the comprehensive video guides, you can feel, see, and correct common swing faults on your own, leading to lasting improvement.

GolfWRX: Where should golfers start? With the 7-iron? Then what? How do the other products fit in?
SS: Most golfers start with the 7-iron, so you can work on full swing mechanics, and once they see the benefits, we see a lot of repeat customers for the driver, wedge, and putter, which is great for tempo and releasing the putter head correctly.
The wedge is great if you suffer from poor contact and the dreaded chipping yips. It forces you to swing the weight of the clubhead quickly stopping any jerky rushed swings, I had a pro once with terrible yips and double hits so I gave him the GForce one day, and watching him chip and pitch was like seeing a miracle happen — you just have to try it to believe it!
As a sidebar: The feedback I get from a lot of customers is, “Why can I hit the GForce better and longer than my own clubs?” It kind of proves that a whippier shaft will load and unload more giving the golfer more clubhead speed, and the more speed you get the better the contact and distance gains will be. I do believe if golfers tried softer shafts they would greatly benefit!

GolfWRX: Interesting. With respect to the training program — you know, “how to use” — what does that look like? Does it vary from golfer or is it fairly standard?
SS: The program follows a specific order: Rhythm, Tempo, Timing, Transition, Swing Path, and finally, Release. It’s crucial to master the fundamentals first — jumping ahead to Transition or Release without solid Rhythm and Tempo can hinder your progress.
I regularly release a wide range of instructional videos on my YouTube channel featuring the swing trainers to address common swing faults. My goal isn’t just to sell training aids, but to provide ongoing, high-quality instruction that helps golfers of all levels improve. The swing trainers are a powerful tool, allowing golfers to feel their swing vs. destructive swing thoughts.
GolfWRX: We know GForce has seen tour use. We’ve heard Rory McIlroy, Danny Willett, and Minjee Lee have all given GForce products a go. Can you share any success stories with NXT-GEN or GForce offerings more generally?
SS: Rory McIlroy started using the GForce while working with swing coach Pete Cowen who said “Getting the GForce Swing Trainer into the delivery position correctly is the key to its use! The correct loading and unloading of the GForce shaft makes it easy to understand what’s required! Since Rory started using GForce he is playing more consistently and with more control in his ball flight.”
But it’s the everyday golfer that GForce has helped the most; I regularly receive emails from customers who have struggled with their swing for years and despite many lessons, they’ve just not got any better. Then they heard about GForce and decided to give it a go and that’s when they had their “eureka” moment when swinging a golf club suddenly became easy and effortless.
For any golfer considering GForce, they should check out the customer reviews on our website www.gforcegolf.com because they will see the many ways GForce Swing Trainers are helping golfers improve over the years; everybody uses them for different reasons, which is cool.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping
Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.
That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.
On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”
On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”
“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

It does work and the owner is such a nice guy, very approachable on Instagram.
I hit rubber and wiffel balls with it in the back yard.
