TaylorMade completes 2024 golf ball line with SpeedSoft, SpeedSoft Ink

Published

on

TaylorMade today announced a new, two-piece, ionomer-covered, low-compression, $25-per-dozen addition to its golf ball lineup: SpeedSoft.

Leveraging technology from its flagship TP5/TP5x lineup, TaylorMade has delivered a soft golf ball that maintains “explosive speeds for the everyday golfer.”

TaylorMade markets the SpeedSoft as the softest ball in its lineup and “the ideal blend of performance and affordability,” powered by its large, low-compression PWRCORE.

“SpeedSoft represents a significant stride in our ongoing commitment to delivering performance products to golfers of all skills,” says Josh Dipert, Director of Product Development Engineering, Golf Ball. “With a deliberate focus on engineering a low-compression design, this is the first time we’ve created a TaylorMade golf ball with a compression delta below 50. SpeedSoft stands out as a game-changer for its unparalleled combination of soft feel and explosive speeds.”

In addition, TaylorMade is debuting a new visual technology in the form of SpeedSoft Ink and a paint-splatter design.

The high-contrast, high-visibility design leverages similar multi-axis printing technology as TaylorMade’s Pix lineup, but at a more accessible price point.

“The market demand for golf balls with visual technology is on the rise, reflecting a growing segment of golfers who seek more than just the traditional white ball experience,” said Michael Fox, Senior Director of Product Creation, Golf Ball. “We feel like this is a segment that has previously been ignored, and with SpeedSoft Ink we are meeting this demand while also taking a bold step towards catering to the modern golfer’s desire for visual technology without sacrificing performance.”

Colorways include green, blue, and pink as well as red and orange in “jar ball offerings” at retail.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
