New Callaway CB wedges aim to offer game improvement for more golfers
A game improvement wedge, but make it less overtly game improvement. Callaway’s CB wedges are, of course, a cavity back wedge. And while that may be a bridge too far for many golfers, the company sought to offer something more in line with a traditional wedge than something more, shall we say, Alien?
Callaway describes the shape at address as “friendlier,” which is to say larger, but not looking like garden hoe.

A well-cambered, tri-level sole, heel and toe relief, high bounce, a pre-worn leading edge, and a wider sole design all contribute to versatility and forgiveness.
The CB wedges also feature Jaws grooves, which are treated with a face blast for enhanced surface roughness and maximum spin. 54 to 60 degree wedges in the line have full face grooves.
Another interesting element: For the first time, Callaway is implementing the Urethane Microsphere technology from its iron line in wedges for enhanced sound and feel.

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.
That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.
On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.
“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”
On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”
“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.
