Spotted: Left-handed Scotty Cameron Circle T long neck Timeless, Concept 2 putters

Published

on

Matt Ryan — not the NFL quarterback — was spotted out at the Korn Ferry HomeTown Lenders Championship with two custom Scotty Cameron putters. Ryan is a left-handed golfer, so you don’t have to adjust your screen thinking the photos are backward.

The first putter is a Scotty Cameron Circle T Timeless in SSS, a designation that has been referred to as both Studio Stainless Steel and Surgical Stainless Steel. The Timeless head is similar to the Newport 2 that you can buy at your local shop, but this version has a VERY tall plumber neck welded on. Typically a tall neck like this will adjust the toe hang in the putter and create a more face-balanced weighting.

The sole features the legendary Circle T logo and twin 30-gram weights. Timeless models have thinner toplines, and the face has what looks to be a medium milling depth. The alignment aid is a single line on the flange filled with gloss black paint. A black steel shaft and a Garsen Ultimate grip round out the putter.

The second putter is a similar Scotty Cameron Circle T Concept 2 with a GSS face insert. GSS is German Stainless Steel, and Scotty describes it as the best stainless to create putters from. It’s easy to machine compared to standard stainless. The GSS insert looks to be a natural silver color and is held into place with the four hex bolts you can see in the cavity.

The rest of the head is finished in matte black, and the long plumbers neck has no visible weld for a cleaner look. The sole on the Concept 2 again has the Circle T logo and 15-gram weights installed in the toe and heel.

Like the Timeless, this putter has a single site line on the flange, painted gloss black. Face milling looks to be a similar depth, maybe just a tiny bit deeper. The same Garsen Ultimate grip and black steel shaft are installed on this Concept 2.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
