Cleveland names Carlyle VP of Business Development
Cleveland Golf/Srixon-U.S.A. has named Scott Carlyle its newest vice president of business development.
“My passion is to understand the ever-increasing overlap between information systems and marketing — and to glean meaningful insights that will improve our business,” Carlyle said in a company press release. “Even as global economic conditions are slow to recover, our strong global presence and resources provide our company a unique opportunity to innovate and energize interest in our brands. The timing is fortunate to coincide with the early success of our new product launches that are building excitement for 2013. For these reasons, I am really excited to be a part of the guiding team that will reaffirm our competitiveness on our path to sustainable earnings growth.”
Carlyle has been with Cleveland since 2004, when he joined as a project engineer for woods. Since then, he has also been the product manager for wedges as well as business unit leader for wedges and irons.
“I have tremendous confidence in Scott’s leadership abilities,” said Todd Harman, president of Cleveland, in the release. “His experience, knowledge and attention to detail make him the right individual for this critical role in our organization.”
The company is best-known for its wedges, but earlier this year, Cleveland released its first adjustable driver, the Cleveland Classic XL Custom (click here to read more about it).
The club manufacturing company was formed in 1979, and currently has endorsement deals with 16 PGA Tour players.
Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.
That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.
On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.
“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”
On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”
“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.
