Spotted: Tom Kim’s 2 new Scotty Cameron Circle T putters
Fan favorite Tom Kim showed up to the 2023 WGC Dell Matchplay with two Scotty Cameron putters to test.
The newest one is a Scotty Cameron T5.5 Circle T mallet with a welded L-neck. Kim’s putter looks a lot like the Phantom X 5 you can buy at your local golf store, but with a few modifications. He carries over the single site line on the topline but adds dual lines on the flange. The face milling looks similar to the retail model but with the iconic Circle T logo filled in black. The sole of the putter has a black Circle T insert and 5g weights installed.
The sole around the insert does look like it was torched as you can see the blue, red, orange, and yellow hues that come out with high heat. These T5.5 putters with the welded L-neck are very popular with players one tour and it seems like we are seeing more and more of them. Kim’s LA Golf P-Series 135 graphite shaft in black is installed with a SuperStroke Tour 2.0 Zenergy in white and black.

Kim’s other flatstick is a Scotty Cameron Tour Type GSS that is similar to the Newport 2 head that you can buy at retail. The putter is milled from solid German Stainless Steel (GSS) that Scotty considers the highest quality for putter making.
The face has what looks to be a pretty traditional milling with a medium depth for a slightly softer feel and sound at impact. It is very rare to see a Scotty tour putter without any markings on the face, even our own tour photographer isn’t sure that he has seen too many with blank faces.
The new Scotty has two alignment marks with a site dot on the topline and a single line on the flange, both filled with gold paintfill. It looks like the Scotty Cameron and Circle T in the cavity are hand-stamped and filled with matching gold paint.
The sole of the putter has two 25g Circle T weights installed and “Tour Type” stamped just below the toe weight. A beautifully beveled L, or plumbers, neck finishes off the putter and that is where the LA Golf P-Series 135 putter shaft is installed.
The P-Series 135 is a full graphite shaft for added stability and enhanced feedback. The shaft is painted in a dark metallic green and LA Golf etched in Kim’s logo of a locomotive with his initials in it. The putter is finished off with a SuperStroke Tour 2.0 Zenergy grip in White Silver with Kim’s initials printed on it.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping
Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.
That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.
On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”
On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”
“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.
