TaylorMade Golf Launches R1 Tuning App

Provides Step-by-Step Guide to Find Perfect Shot Shape for Company’s Revolutionary New Driver

CARLSBAD, CALIF. (February 4, 2013) – TaylorMade Golf Company, makers of the No. 1 driver in golf, today announced the availability of its R1 Tuning App – a free and easy way to interact with the technology and benefits of the company’s latest driver.

The new R1 driver has 168 different launch conditions and is the most adjustable TaylorMade driver ever. This app will show users how to correct a slice or hook, alter trajectory and dial in the perfect shot shape. Click here to download or search “R1 Tuning” in the app store.

“Our studies indicate that 80% of golfers are playing the wrong loft in their driver,” said Tom Kroll, Global Product Marketing Manager of Metalwoods for TaylorMade. “The availability of this app is yet another way for us to reach and educate more consumers on the benefits of proper driver fittings.”

Golfers can also get fit for their R1 driver with the help of a certified club fitter and launch monitor at either an off-course retailer or green grass shop. TaylorMade also has hundreds of demo days scheduled throughout the U.S. during the next few months.

The R1 is already the No. 1 driver model on the PGA Tour and has won four times (Dustin Johnson/Hyundai Tournament of Champions, Brian Gay/Humana Challenge, John Cook/Mitsubishi Electric Championship and Stephen Gallacher/Omega Dubai Desert Classic).

I agree Joey. Take lessons to fix your swing, and then buy a club that complements it.

My studies show most players would be better served by spending the $400 on lessons.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
