Cleveland Golf unveils new next-gen CBX ZipCore wedges
Cleveland Golf has today announced the introduction of the next generation of its CBX line of wedges: the CBX ZipCore.
The foundation of the latest CBX ZipCore is a low-density core that sits at the heart of the wedge. ZipCore shifts the center of gravity while also boosting High-Low MOI in design for more stability high and low on the wedge face for maximum forgiveness.

Per Cleveland, the result is a 26% improvement in High-Low MOI compared against the previous generation and a 10% improvement in Heel-Toe MOI.

“If you play cavity back irons, you should be playing a CBX wedge, plain and simple. The sole is more forgiving, the face is more forgiving, and it’s easier to swing.” – Jeff Brunski, Vice President of Research and Development at Cleveland Golf

The Hollow Cavity Design on the new wedges contains a hollow chamber near the heel with added weight in the toe to maximize MOI and perimeter weighting in design for maximum forgiveness, while a Gelback TPU Insert dampens vibrations to provide a pure feel at impact.

Similar to RTX ZipCore, the CBX ZipCore features Cleveland’s UltiZip Grooves.
The UltiZip Grooves are 11% sharper and 7.3% deeper while also being 7.4% closer together. With the grooves being closer together, Cleveland was able to add two more grooves to each wedge face for more groove contact resulting in more spin.

The new CBX ZipCore features three Dynamic Sole Grinds: the V, C- and S-Shaped soles to make sure players can cope with any type of shot.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping
Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.
That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.
On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”
On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”
“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Really nice and clean looking wedges. Should do well for mid to high handicap players that like the extra forgiveness.
