What’s your 7-wood setup? – GolfWRXers discuss
In our forums, our members have been detailing their 7-wood setup. WRXer ‘Columbuslinks’ is on the hunt for a new 7-wood and kicks off the thread looking for the following details from others:
“I am looking for a new 7 wood. I am interested in your setups.
- Head model
- Shaft
- Driver swing speed
- Carry distance
- Length
What is working for you?”
And our members have been sharing their 7-wood setups in our forum.
Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.
- Cactus Jack: “ing G425 with a Ventus Blue 8X playing at 42”. This is my 250 club, and I use it almost exclusively off the deck into par 5. I don’t recall driver swing speed, but my ball speed averages around 170mph.”
- Billfitz: “I replaced my Taylor Made 7w with a 22 degree Cleveland Launcher Halo hybrid. I like it better than the fairway wood in every respect. There’s still some out there on closeout for $160.”
- xandersingh: “Head model: TSi2. Shaft: Tour AD DI 8x (tipped 1 inch). Driver swing speed: 110ish. Carry distance: 225. Length: 41 inches. Favorite club in the bag. Simply the easiest club to hit. Can work it, flight it down. I can choke up and take up to 25 yards off it if I’m not feeling comfortable with my 4/5 iron on any given day.”
- maomaobear: “Head: TSi2. Shaft: Tensei AV Raw Blue 65S. Driver SS: 90-95 mph. Carry with 7 wood: 185-195 yards. Also my favorite club in the bag. Easy to hit and launch, almost use it on every par 5 and long par 4s.”

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping
Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.
That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.
On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”
On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”
“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Need a 7 wood for my dad, seemingly no stiff shaft options and if they are stiff then it’s a severe upcharge. Are the only ways 1) new club custom ordered and 2) buy some 7 wood with a regular or senior shaft and buy a stiff shaft separate?
