Mizuno teases new ST-G 220 driver (and Mizuno Pro 221 irons) on social media
The combination of surging demand for golf equipment and a global pandemic disrupting every link of the supply chain is widening the time between the first time we see a club in a player’s bag on tour — or its black-and-white incarnation arriving on the USGA’s conforming list — and when these objects of desire make their way to retail.
GolfWRXers have been discussing Mizuno’s ST-G 220 driver since May when it was spotted on “the list.” We filed a spotted piece at that point, and even got an in-hand look at the club at the 3M Open last month.
With all that as prelude, the ST-G images below that circulated on Mizuno’s social media accounts aren’t as notable as they might otherwise be. However, the company indicates an October 2021 PAR date, and as I’m checking my calendar here, we’re halfway through August, so I’d certainly imagine we’ll have an official launch sometime before the end of September.

What is new however, is the pairing of the Mizuno Pro 221 irons Justin Rose recently had in the bag with the driver in the promotional shot. “Mizuno Pro” appears clearly, so the inclusion of the irons with the script visible would seem to suggest that Mizuno is indeed bringing the Mizuno Pro name to the United States and not renaming the wares with the “MP-22” badge.

Of course, with Mizuno mum on the matter, we’ll have to wait for more information before confirming the suspicion.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping
Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.
That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.
On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”
On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”
“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.
