Honma TR20V iron reviews – GolfWRXers react

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing Honma’s TR20V irons. Plenty of WRXers have been commenting on the irons having tested them out, with plenty of reviewers thrilled by what they have experienced.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • chocolate_rehab: “I randomly hit them when I was testing out some shafts for my current irons. They felt amazing. I had no interest in changing irons, but they felt so good I had to think about it! I was also super surprised that they were pretty long for me. The size of the iron made me think it would be short than my Srixons, but they were pretty equal, if not a touch longer. I ended up grabbing a set of TR20P from eBay – kind of hoping they feel somewhere close to the V’s, because I’d love a bit of extra forgiveness. If they’re as good as I hope, they’ll probably be my backup set.”
  • Malc: “I tried a set, and they are legit irons. Flew a long way for me, but the shafts in mine were a tiny bit stiff and heavy feeling for me (not the clubs’ fault), but I did find the soles a tiny bit wide coming from blades. Had a nice feel though, get Sakata built ones if you can.”
  • sniper: “I hit the V and P today and came away impressed. Felt solid and looked good. I would be interested in a more extensive testing if I could find a place closer to home that caries them (rainy vacation day today).”
  • wam78: “Ended up purchasing the TR20V 6-PW, TR20P 5i, TR21X 4i with vizard 100x, 48 I sole bent to 49.5 and a 54. Needless to say, I came away very impressed with these irons. Some of the best feeling irons I’ve tested. So solid!”

I hit both the V and P, but settled on the P because I wanted stronger lofts. Both were solid and buttery. Got the Modus 105 shafts, but thought about the Vizard graphite sticks. Solid clubs, look great, do exactly what I want them to do.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
