What GolfWRXers are saying about TaylorMade’s SIM Max fairway woods
In our forums, our members have been discussing TaylorMade’s SIM 2 Max fairway woods. WRXer ‘platgolf’ has been blown away by his SIM 5-wood, saying
“I have bought a lot of fairway woods looking for the goat, and that includes the latest offerings. The Sim Max 5 wood kills the ball. Par three today was out there, and no way I thought I could reach it at 190 yards. I went 20 yards past it.
This is beyond anything I have ever played before. That is as long as my driver, insane. I have gone and ordered the 7 wood, and they are hard to find.”
And our members have been sharing their thoughts on the clubs, with many having the same positive experience with the woods as ‘platgolf’.
Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.
- jmc1313: “I’ve had the same experience with the hybrids. High and long. Really an eye-opener for me. You just convinced me to get a new 5 wood.”
- EDT501: “They are definitely very, very hot. Great shape and feel too. I actually found the SIM fairways too hot and wouldn’t mind 500-1000 RPMs more spin in exchange for several yards, but that’s just my need. Great clubs.”
- platgolf: “Getting the 7 wood is tough as most were sold out. I went ahead and paid full price to get it. The shaft in these are very good shafts, lots of control. My vision is messed up right now, but hopefully get that fixed so I can enjoy these even more. WRX’ers were talking about how good they are, and I didn’t believe it. Now I know it’s real.”
- Nixhex524: “It’s long, I had the Sim Max 15*, and it looks and feels great, but honestly, I don’t think it’s any better than my G425 Max 3w, and that thing seems to be easier off the deck. I can see why people love the Sim woods, strong contenders.”

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping
Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.
That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.
On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”
On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”
“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.
