PGA Championship Tour Truck Report: Driver, shaft change for DJ? Phil switches drivers, too
As you might expect, players aren’t making many substantial changes being made the week of a major championship. Nobody is looking to replace the starting quarterback the week of the Super Bowl (yes, I know there’s no WITB trade deadline in golf).
That said, we still have some interesting notes from the Ocean Course to bring your way ahead of the PGA Championship.
TaylorMade
In a surprising move, Dustin Johnson is reportedly putting a SIM2 Max in play (10.5 degrees) with a LA Golf prototype shaft. He also returned to his Spider putter.
Sergio Garcia has switched from the TP5x to the TP5 golf ball. He also has a 9-degree SIM2 Max in the bag.
Tommy Fleetwood replaced his SIM2 7-wood with a P7TW 3-iron.
Rory McIlroy put 56 and 60-degree MG2 TW wedges in the bag.
Non-staffer Louis Oosthuizen put a SIM2 in play. 15 degrees.
Justin Rose switched into an 8-degree SIM2.
Titleist
Brendon Todd and Chan Kim are putting the 2021 Pro V1x in play.
J.T. Poston is testing the 2021 Pro V1.
Ian Poulter is moving to a TSi2 13.5-degree fairway (from 917 F2, 16.5 degrees) and TSi2 19-degree hybrid (from TSi2, 21 degrees).
Bernd Wiesberger is replacing his hybrid with a U500 2-iron.
Adam Scott putting a Vokey WedgeWorks 60A grind in play. Scott likes the thin sole, how it’s fast through the turf. The low-bounce option fits well for firm conditions with lightly sanded bunkers like this week at Kiawah. The grind encourages players to open face because the leading edge hugs the ground, according to a Titleist source.
Jimmy Walker is adding a Vokey 60-04L, moving from D grind.

Callaway
Phil Mickelson switched into a Callaway Epic Speed Triple Diamond (6 degrees @5.5). Fujikura Ventus Black 6 TX shaft (47.5 inches, D4).

Tom Lewis is putting an X Forged UT ’18 (18 degrees) with KBS $Taper 125 in the bag.
Steve Stricker put an X Forged UT ’16 (18 degrees) with a True Temper Dynamic Gold X100 shaft in play.
Matt Wallace had some bounce taken off the back of his 60-T Jaws MD5 wedge.
Cobra
Non-staffer Chris Kirk has added a RadSpeed Big Tour 3-wood and a RadSpeed Tour 5-wood to his arsenal.
Unconfirmed, but Rickie Fowler looked to be back in his King F9 SpeedBack driver.
Ping
“Lots of 2 irons this week,” according to a source at Ping. Cameron Champ and Lee Westwood are putting i210 2-irons in play.
PXG
Zach Johnson is in a Mitsubishi Kai’li Blue Prototype in his PXG 0811 Prototype driver.

Opps! Didn’t he win? 366 yard drive splits the fairway and is longest of the day even better than Dechambeau. Age 50 playing like 20. Yowza!
