What GolfWRXers are saying about the most forgiving wedges

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been talking wedges. WRXer ‘eagles88’ is on the hunt for a wedge that offers more forgiveness than his current gamer, and our members have been sharing their suggestions in our forum.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • nick_CO: “Cleveland has the cbx wedges that are cavity back. They also have smart sole wedges that are even more forgiving but kind of look like chippers.  Callaway just put out a Mack daddy cb wedge. Several OEMs are making more forgiving wedges. Should have multiple options to look into trying. Good luck with your search.”
  • braincramp52: “The Ping Glide 3.0’s might be the best wedges on the market. Especially in the forgiveness area.”
  • simonizer: “ZipCore mid-bounce that I recently tested were great feeling and easy to hit.  Weighting seemed perfect for good distance control and workability.  If I didn’t already have the Glide 3.0 Eye2, then I would have ordered these.”
  • martinbns: “I have played most brands of wedges, but have always landed back with Cleveland.  I needed to replace my primary club around the green a 52* bronze colours CG something. I had noticed on full shots I missed more or them than I should have.  Saw the CBX, bought and it’s terrific, full shots are great, chipping and pitching no problem, today I had a hardpan lie going up about 10′ in a 20 yd shot, it came off perfectly. These things are great around the greens.”

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
