Cobra Pars and Stripes SpeedZone drivers: Limited-edition launch at retail tomorrow

Published

on

It has been a year filled with unexpectedly canceled and rescheduled events. But in the world of limited-release products, where manufacturing schedules are prepared over a year in advance, the new Pars and Stripes limited edition Cobra SpeedZone driver is just in time for what would have been the 2020 U.S. Open Championship.

The new Pars and Stripes SpeedZone driver, including the Xtreme, feature a color palette inspired by the U.S. Open and the American flag.

It has a white crown, with red and blue highlights on the sole, and the driver’s infinity face and sole features a very cool blue PVD finish.

The drivers offer the same technology as the standard SpeedZone and SpeedZone Xtreme—you can check out all the details our in-depth launch piece: Cobra gets faster in 2020 with new SpeedZone and SpeedZone Xtreme drivers—but with one noticeable exception.

The Limited Edition Pars and Stripes comes equipped with a real deal Fujikura Ventus shaft with Velocore.

If you were to configure the standard SpeedZone driver with a Fujikura Ventus the upcharge is $240, whereas, with the Pars and Stripes, you get the shaft along with the limited edition paintjob for only $100 more than the standard driver – it more than justifies the additional price of the club.

Price and Availability

The Pars and Stripes Cobra SpeedZone drivers will be available is Friday, June 19.

They will be right hand only and come in nine degrees for the SpeedZone and 10.5 in the SpeedZone Xtreme. Both have Cobra’s MyFly loft sleeve to adjust the driver 1.5 degrees up and down from the standard loft.

The drivers will also be available in Regular and Stiff flex, with X-stiff available through custom order

Retail price is $549.

The picture of the Ventus seems to be the Blue, so wondering if they will include the Ventus Black for those that don’t fit into the Blue?

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
