What GolfWRXers are saying about Mizuno irons

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing Mizuno irons with WRXer ‘aaronpoling’ looking for suggestions on finding the right model for himself. ‘Aaronpoling’ is looking for something similar to Ping’s G25s with forgiveness a priority. Our members have been giving their suggestions in our forums.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • monks66: “I have the JPX 825 Pros….great iron and def forgiving.”
  • bubbagump: “The JPX 900F are irons for the ages imo, they blend enough forgiveness with all the playability and consistency you would need as well as a nice distance package. They have been truly excellent irons, and I’ve really enjoyed them, and played well with them. Nothing will mask bad swings no matter how forgiving a club is and Pings G line is about as forgiving as one can be but if you’re looking for the next step 900F would be a really good choice. The HMs you mentioned would for sure be more in line of a lateral move from the G25s than the forged if you wanted to keep as close to your current irons as possible.”
  • Orlandogolfguru: “Depending on how old you want to go, and to be consistent with g25, the only choice is jpx non forged line. The forged line is not nearly as forgiving. 919 hot metal (non-pro) is your best bet. It’s newer, super forgiving, packed with tech and goes a long way. Feels better than g25 as well. Good luck.”
  • mattavery727: “Hot metal would be similar. They are on sale too right now. Give discount dans a ring for a great deal. Mizuno has great custom options, as well.”

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
