Epon launches new hollow AF-706
The Epon 700 series clubs have always been built around creating the ultimate performance in a technology-packed iron head. The newest AF-706 iron delivers on this with Epon’s very first hollow body iron in the series, to push center of gravity deeper and create a fast clubface for more ball speed.

The face is only 1.9 mm thick to help save mass to reposition it around the head and increase MOI. By doing this they are able to boost the effective hitting area (I hate using the term sweet spot) by 30 percent to help get golfer onto the green more often even if they don’t quite strike it just right. The entire platform is built for golfers looking to get more distance and height, all while maintaining the feel associated with Epon irons forged by Endo.
From a looks perspective—let’s call it confidence-inspiring. Clean lines with lots of mass behind the ball to help golfers feel like they don’t have to be absolutely perfect to execute. The flange is visible on the longer clubs, but with many modern game improvement style clubs, this is quite common.

The AF-706 has less offset than the previous 705’s and the hosel transition into the head does a nice job of hiding it into the longer clubs, just don’t forget that these are designed to help create launch and carry. The lofts are stronger but inline with clubs design to help golfers looking to add extra distance without losing height and peak trajectory.

Last but not least, to help golfers transition into their wedges, the AF-706 irons come with matching wedges to prevent gapping issues into the shorter clubs. This is a common issue with larger hollow-body game improvement clubs and the team behind the AF-706 saw an opportunity to help golfers gap their clubs better, while still providing versatility with short shots played around the green.
Epon AF-706: Price and availability
The AF-706 will soon be available at Epon custom fitters and the price starts at $375 with Nippon Steel shafts.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping
Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.
That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.
On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”
On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”
“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.
