Today from the Forums: “Ping i500 vs i210”

Published

on

Today from the Forums sees WRXer nyjets1 who has been having trouble deciding between Ping’s i500 and i210 irons. Per nyjets21: “Love the feel of the 210 but the distance gains and the looks of the 500 are on a whole new level. I’ve read all the threads, and I’m more confused than ever. I’m now putting in the hands of my fellow WRXers; please help me make a decision.”

Our members have been helping out nyjets21 by discussing the benefits of each iron set and insights from their own experiences using each iron set.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • averysdad: “After I hit the i500’s, for me, I didn’t even waste my fitters time with the 210’s. For me, the i500’s felt great and sounded great, and the flight and distance were exactly what I was looking for. They look great in the bag and behind the ball; offset is minimal and dangit…I just like them. Could I have missed out not testing the 210’s…maybe…but I didn’t want to create the same issue you’re having. But for me in the end, I didn’t like the looks of the 210 near as much as the 500’s, and there’s something to that.”
  • sambelo: “I went from i200 to i500 to i210. i500 performed great but hated the feel on anything other than pure strikes. i210 feels so much better. Gave up a few yards but worth it.”
  • DavePelz4: “This is GolfWRX, so let’s just be honest. You’re going to end up owning both at some point so just buy both now and eliminate the head v heart concern.”
  • kcsf: “I’ve found the i500’s to be forgiving to a fault. I’ve put a number of poor swings on mine, including one so bad off the toe the ball caught very little grooves, and it landed ~5 yards short and right. Much better result than I deserved. The feel isn’t butter if hit off center, but what club really does. You won’t be disappointed.”
  • MattRemick: “I own both…. The same shaft in both, Had my lowest round ever my second round with the i500…. 9 iron had what I thought could have been a crack, Ping replaced it in less than a week…. I bought the i210s while I was waiting, today I played a round with the i210, I bought the i210 in power spec, I don’t see much difference in distance, but the i210 has a much softer feel… and it’s 30 degrees here in Jersey.”

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
