More information: Titleist releases EXP-01 golf ball FAQ through Team Titleist

Published

on

As discussed a few weeks ago, Titleist, for the first time in its history, launched a true prototype (experimental) ball to the masses in the hopes of gaining valuable, real-world, player feedback with the EXP-01. You can find the original article here: New Titleist EXP-01 golf ball

So far the feedback Titleist has received has been overwhelming and positive which proves that golfers have been excited to get out and test the new EXP-01 ball and be a part of the process.

Inevitably they have still received a lot of questions about the new EXP-01 ball and through Team Titleist they recently released an FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions pieces to help answer some of the most common questions so far:

WHAT IS THE EXP•01 GOLF BALL?

Titleist EXP•01 is an experimental, multi-layer golf ball that delivers low spin on long game shots for great distance and tight dispersion, short game spin and control, durability and consistency.

WHAT IS THE PRODUCT TECHNOLOGY?

This 3-piece golf ball features a high speed core, specialized casing layer, proprietary thermoplastic urethane cover and 346 dimple design.

DOES EXP•01 FEATURE THE SAME URETHANE COVER AS PRO V1, PRO V1X AND AVX?

No. The covers of Pro V1, Pro V1x and AVX are designed with Titleist’s thermoset cast urethane technology. EXP•01 has a thermoplastic urethane cover. While both cover systems are termed “urethane,” they are manufactured using different materials and processes.

DOES THE EXP PROJECT REPLACE YOUR GOLF BALL TESTING WITH TEAM TITLEIST MEMBERS? WILL WE NOW HAVE TO PAY FOR “WHITE BOX” PROTOTYPES?

No. White box prototype testing and validation with Team Titleist is an important part of our process and is a completely separate initiative that takes place closer to the end of our development stages. It’s been exciting for us to watch this grow every year and this trend will continue.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
