Forum Thread of the Day: “One driver for the rest of your life – what would it be?”

Published

on

Today’s Forum Thread of the Day comes from DCMorgan89 who asks an intriguing question – if you could only play one driver for the rest of your life, what would it be? Our members weigh in with their choices, with plenty of different drivers receiving a mention.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • JDMRN81: “G400 Max with an AD TP shaft and it’s not even close! Incredibly forgiving, low spin with a laser mid-flight.”
  • Valtiel: “I’m someone who rarely changes drivers. Several years ago it would have been a 910D3 as well, and I still plan on building up another one sometime soon. I’m hoping it will be the Mizuno ST190, but we’ll see!”
  • LONGBALL777: “Callaway Big Berta Fusion. Straightest driver ever!”
  • regiwstruk: “ST190. Just has it all.”

For me it’s my GBB Epic sub zero 9 deg w/ project x black 75 x. Lowest spinning combo you can get. And FYI the SLDR I’s the worst thing TM ever made by their admittence. And who ever in the article thinks the G400 Max is low spinnois crazy. It’s the highest spinning head on the market until the TS1 just came out. If you have to go TM , it’s the 2016 M2. But anything TM will break within a couple of years anyway.

ST190G @ 9*. I feel like I can swing as hard as I want and hit it straight. Love the look of it at address and the sound also.

I’d have to go with my Big Bertha Alpha with my Diamana X Stiff shaft!

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
