Forum Thread of the Day: “Cobra’s ‘phenomenal’ King F9 Speedback irons”
Today’s Forum Thread of the Day comes from collingsom1a, who began the thread to discuss Cobra’s King F9 Speedback irons. After testing the clubs from Cobra, it’s fair to say that collingsom1a was more than a little impressed by what he found out, and detailed his experience in our forums.
“I was all set to get a set of new Ping irons like I do every 2 years. Then, I hit the new Cobra F9 irons. Holy crap, they are phenomenal. Great looks at set up, nice smaller head, not as much offset as the Ping G410’s, nice top line. Then, I hit them, and the universe exploded!!!!!!! “
“The ball literally explodes off that club face. I was getting 3-4 mph more ball speed vs the G410’s, and the trajectory was heavenly. I fight a lower trajectory with my irons, always have fought that, low draws. I was hitting the irons with a 20-degree trajectory, 145-150 carry (that’s usually my total distance with the G410’s), and these rolled out about 8-10 yds total distance. I got more rpm’s, about 5300 with the F9’s and they stopped fairly quickly on the greens.”
Here’s what some of our other members have been saying about Cobra’s F9 Irons, but make sure to check out the entire thread and have your say at the link below.
- Lamb: “These are the best looking irons Cobra have ever made IMO. This is just insane. I am not a fan of a full set of OEM clubs but have a hard time not justifying Driver – PW.”
- dan_mee: “Optics just too strange for mine. It’s like the baffler irons from a few years ago.”
- johnnythunders: “When I did a brief test back in January the distance was impressive but what was really impressive was the dispersion with that tungsten toe and heel weight in the 7. Oh my. At the flag every shot. I will be giving them a full test when my shoulder improves. Also their hybrids and driver, but that new Mizuno is probably going in the bag.”

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping
Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.
That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.
On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”
On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”
“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

“literally explodes”
Ugh.
Well I guess it didn’t go very far. I suggest not using exploding golf balls for testing.

I tried them and didn’t think they would work for my game. I hit them so much farther and straighter than any other club that I feared it would make the game too easy….Uncle Rico is playing them, he can hit 5 iron over that mountain over there.
