Tiger Woods to put TaylorMade M5 woods, P-7TW irons in play
Looks like Tiger Woods will be putting new irons and woods in play at the Farmers Insurance Open this week. Ever since prototype P-7TW irons were recently spotted in the 14-time major champion’s bag, GolfWRX Members and equipment junkies across the internet wondered…
Was TW was merely testing the clubs that bear his initials?
Would he game the new irons in his season debut at Torrey Pines?
And a third question: With TM’s recent M5/M6 driver and woods launch, would Woods, well, change woods?
Based on a photo the man himself posted on social media this morning, it appears Woods will make the switch to not only P-7TW irons, but an M5 driver and three wood. Presumably, his wedge and putter setup remains the same, and his M3 5-wood will stay in the bag as well.
Always fun to put new toys in the bag. Excited and ready to get 2019 started. #TeamTaylorMade #FIO19 pic.twitter.com/M6CXU4CZSg

GolfWRX has heard the driver shaft is a Mitsubishi Diamana D+ White 70TX, the same model that Woods switched to late in 2018 as he dialed back his swing a touch in an (successful) effort to find more fairways. Woods finished 2018 with a 9.5 degree TaylorMade M3 460 in the bag. His M5 appears to be 9.0 degrees with the weights in a neutral position and the loft setting one click higher.
The “TW Phase 1” irons Woods played most of 2018 with are gone from the bag, replaced by the similar-looking P-7TW irons. The similar nomenclature to TM’s P760 irons, etc, suggests this is an iron we could see at retail, although the company is yet to comment.

*Disclaimer: Yes, it’s technically possible TW will not show up on the first tee at Torrey Thursday with these clubs in his bag. However, given the tone of his post and the massive blow woods taking any of the clubs in question out of his bag before the event, it’s safe to assume Woods will play these clubs.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping
Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.
That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.
On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”
On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”
“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.
