KBS partners with Cool Clubs to launch online store

You know that button on most shaft companies websites that helps you find retailers and custom fitters that carry their products? That button is a great thing, because we all should play equipment that’s built to our specifications.

But let’s face it — not all of us live near good custom fitting facilities or always have the time/energy/money to go through a custom fitting session. But we still want those new shafts, of course.

KBS, a steel shaft manufacturer that has been gaining traction on the PGA Tour, has one of those buttons on their site. But the company saw an opportunity to grow its sales online. In response, it launched a web store in partnership with Arizona-based custom clubfitter Cool Clubs to sell shafts to golfers who know their specs or want the convenience of online ordering.

In the store, golfers will be able to purchase the full line of KBS Shafts, as well as various KBS accessories such as towels and staff bags. The store will also offer flat-rate shipping ($9.95), a 1-year warranty and exclusive KBS products.

“The golf industry is an evolving landscape and in recent years we’ve felt pull from the web where our consumer traffic continues to grow,” said Rob Cheng, CEO of KBS Golf Shafts. “Provided this and changes in the competitive landscape, we felt it was necessary to develop a viable e-commerce solution. KBS still remains committed to custom club fitting by certified professionals however and we plan to grow both ends of our business going forward.”

KBS will host the store website, while Cool Clubs will handle inventory, shipments and credit card processing.

“We’ve been an avid supporter of the KBS Golf Shaft brand since its founding in 2008,” said Mark Timms, founder of Cool Clubs. “[Designer] Kim Braly is a close friend and has helped shape the industry’s knowledge of golf shafts… His rapid success with KBS on Tour is simply phenomenal. We’re very excited for the new partnership.”

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
