Forum Thread of the Day: Cobra’s new King F9 “Speedback” driver?

Published

on

Today’s Forum Thread of the Day revolves around information on Cobra’s latest releases. News of Cobra’s King CB/MB irons, which were created in tandem with Rickie Fowler, were released a couple of days ago, and in the thread titled “Cobra ’19 News?”, GolfWRX members got a peak at what else Cobra has lined up for its followers.

GolfWRX member cbuescher has revealed some fascinating information on possible future Cobra products, dishing out details on what are apparently Cobra’s new F9 drivers.

“F9 drivers look great.  No more F8+…..just one head with three different loft options.  Found out that the old F7/F8 adapters will fit new heads, but new adapters are labeled differently.  They now say STD, +1, -1, +1.5, etc.  The three different loft options will have the standard lofts as 9.0, 10.5, or 12. Drivers and fairways have a similar look as before but they’ve added two “turbulators” on the back of the crown. The driver will have 2 color options.”

GolfWRX forum members were also privy to information gleaned from cbuescher on Cobra’s new fairway wood and hybrid line:

“Fairway woods look almost identical to F8 with the milled face added this year.  Hybrids are a black matte finish and look much better IMO than last year.  Several of you asked about the KING Forged iron.  Unfortunately this club has gone away…they felt like Forged Tech was a better fit for that gap and the King Forged was not needed anymore.”

I prefer “bareback” to “speedback”….. not straight.

Evidently this driver will make you hit the ball so far and straight that the game will no longer pose a challenge….WOW!

“Speedback” driver? That should increase my clubhead speed by at least 10mph or more….

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
