TaylorMade launches P-760 irons: In-hand photos, tech info and comparison pics

Published

on

That was quick. On Monday, TaylorMade officially launched the P760 irons. We now have a bit more information, in addition to what we already know below.

According to TaylorMade, the short irons (8-PW, AW) are forged from a single piece of 1025CS, while the long irons are forged from 1025CS with a hollow-body construction — they have SUS630 faces, and are injected with SpeedFoam as highlighted below. Throughout the set, there’s a progressive design in terms of head size, offset, lofts, and how large the “hollow” portion is in the heads, as you can see below.

TaylorMade’s P760 irons will be available for $1400 (8 piece set; 3-PW) with True Temper Dynamic Gold 120, S300 or X100 shafts and Golf Pride Tour Velvet 360 grips starting on November 2.

— original story —

TaylorMade unveiled its new P-760 irons during testing sessions on Wednesday night with Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm and Jason Day via Instagram Live. According to Tomo Bystedt, it’s a progressive set that features a one-piece cavity from PW-8 iron, then a Speed Foam-filled design from the 7-3 irons. Size-wise, the irons essentially exist between the P-750 and P-770 irons released in 2017.

On the Instagram Live feed, Jason Day, who plays the P-750s currently, expressed concern about the leading edge design, and he pointed out the toplines were a bit thicker than his P-750s, and there was more offset, too.

Now — via GolfWRX Member taylorx300 — we have in-hand photos of the irons. In this thread, he unveiled comparison photos between the P-770 and the new P-760. In this thread, he shows in-hand photos of the PW, 8 and 3 irons from the new P-760 set.

Here are the photos from taylorx300 below.

I think this is an attempt at a combo set for people that don’t have the experience to do combo set orders. I think there’s going to be some OEM soon that starts to split short an long irons off the shelf. I would. Start selling 4-7 as a “set”, and sell 8-G as the other “set”. Sure, you can get a complete set, but someone has to start making it ‘easier’ to doing an a la carte off the shelf split without having to resort to these “progressive” things that are summarily different 7 to 8 iron.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
