TECH TALK: Srixon’s new Z-785, Z-585 and Z-U85 irons
Recently, our Andrew Tursky spoke with Cleveland-Srixon’s Engineering Manager Dustin Brekke to learn everything there is to know about Srixon’s new Z-series irons, and utility irons. The full conversations are highlighted below, as well as important information about each of the new offerings.
The hollow-bodied Z-U85 ($199 apiece), and the Z-585 and Z-785 irons ($999 for 7-piece steel, and $1099 for 7-piece graphite), which are forged from 1020 carbon steel with Tour V.T. soles, will be available for sale on September 14.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping
Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.
That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.
On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”
On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”
“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

A lefty golfer here. No 5-6 utility iron for left hand. No matching gap wedge for left hand. The ordinary left handed golfer needs these options. You offer a 3 iron in left hand even though I’m sure you would sell more gap wedges & 5-6 utility irons. Guess I won’t be buying any new Srixon clubs.

No offense but do you really think you know more about what they’d sell more of than they do? Your frustration is understandable but companies like this base these decisions off sales history and market research. It’s not just a guess.

Completely agree. I’m tired of lefties complaining about club availability. Just stick to the companies that do offer the clubs you prefer and stop taking everything personally.
Same thing goes with wide-footed shoe complainers.
