Published

on

Are phone videos becoming too distracting for both the fans and the players? Jordan Spieth recently scolded fans, telling them, “Sometimes it’s actually cool to watch.” In the same vein, are adult autograph seekers becoming too much? Also, the guys discuss Tiger’s recent equipment changes, including wedges and a new graphite iron shaft.

Yes and yes here too. Enough is enough. We need somewhere we can go to get away from this stuff for just a little while. Off courses were the last bastions. And yes get off my lawn too.

Just be glad someone wants your autograph…..

I’m glad that people go to these events for no other reason than to concoct up crazy new combinations of autographs scribbled on worthless sundries. Think of the whole process as setting up a temporary factory where child labor is happily exploited to create a supply-chain for the misguided memorabilia machine. Priceless. . .

Don’t ban it altogether. Take a note from leagues, and have a dedicated area.

I can’t tell you how often guys just send kids to have memorabilia signed, and then they hand the kid $20 on success. It’s unfortunate, but it’s a huge business. It would be wise to ban it within normal areas, and encourage it in fan zones.

No, but idiots and alcohol should be banned

How hard is it to turn off the sound on your phone?

Entertainers need to get over themselves. Shut up and entertain me now or go find a real job.

I think you have it backwards. We are going to see them, not vice versa. They don’t like yahoos. Neither do I. If you’re a yahoo, stay home. If you want to be a normal fan, come on out. What’s so hard to understand?

Fans have a connection to players by watching, not worrying about getting some picture, especially 100+ people trying to get pictures on their phones will players are trying to hit shots. Tour was silly to give in on this. Atmosphere at The Masters is X100 anyway over most events, but no phones is a key part of the reason people love watching golf there. Fans need to get over themselves.

No, this is the age of communications, and we are not dinosaurs. The fans need to have a connection to the players.

Have a connection after the round, not during! Cell phones (and arguably autographs) should only be allowed during practice rounds.

Why do fans need a connection to the players? Don’t you have a life of your own?

On this episode of Club Junkie, I dive into the brand-new Ping i540 irons and talk about where they fit in the lineup, their performance on the course, and who I think they are really made for. There is a lot to love — and maybe one complaint in the new i540 irons.

The show also covers the new L.A.B. VZN.1i putters that have started showing up, plus some new Graphite Design Tour AD shafts spotted out on the PGA Tour and what makes them interesting. Wrapping things up, I might swap a few shafts into some putters and talk through how those changes might completely alter feel and performance.

Club Junkie’s Titleist GTS driver fitting results!

Published

on

On this episode of the Club Junkie Podcast, I head to the Titleist Performance Institute for a full driver fitting with the new Titleist GTS lineup. We dive into the fitting process, talk about what made the biggest difference in performance, and break down how the different GTS heads and shaft combinations compare on the launch monitor. If you are thinking about a new driver setup for this season, there is a lot to take away from this one.

I also get into Brooks Koepka and the gear setup he brought to the PGA Championship, including the putters that caught my eye during the week. There are some interesting equipment trends showing up at the highest level right now and we break down what stands out.

To wrap things up, I talk about reshafting a few wedges, what I learned during the process, and swapping an adaptor onto a new shaft for another build project in the shop. A gear packed episode from start to finish for anyone who loves golf equipment and club building.
