Under Armour’s new Spieth 2 golf shoes (2018 PGA Show)

Published

on

First, there was the original Under Armour UA Drive One shoes that Jordan Spieth made popular. Then, the company launched its Jordan Spieth signature, Spieth One shoes at the beginning of 2018.

Now, in January of 2018, Under Armour has announced the release of its new Spieth 2 golf shoes. And the company had them on display at the 2018 PGA Show.

The Spieth 2 shoes have Gore-Tex waterproofing, an upper section that has woven thermoplastic urethane (TPU) fibers for support, and spikes designed to resist movement, thus adding stability and traction. They’re currently available for pre-sale, but will hit retail on February 2 for $200. They’re offered in four colorways, and with laces or the BOA closure system on select colorways.

Not much new here. I’m sure the shoe is as good as the others at this price point although it looks a bit rigid to me. I think the branding is at a 1st grade level. Just going out on a limb here but guessing for the next model is called…….?

Built off the same stiff, uncomfortable platform as the first shoe with a worse design. Hard pass

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
