Tiger Woods testing TaylorMade M3 driver, still gaming TGR irons

Published

on

As there’s a 1,000,000 percent chance you’re already aware, Tiger Woods returns to official PGA Tour action at the Farmers Insurance Open this week.

Also not shocking: Woods will be using 14 golf clubs this week in his pursuit of the lowest score. So, what’s in the 14-time major champion’s Monster Energy bag? Well, a lot of what was in there for the Hero World Challenge in December.

Woods is still gaming the 2017 TaylorMade M1 3-wood (15 degrees) TM tells us it has a 42-inch Mitsubishi Tensei CK Pro White 90TX shaft. Likewise, he still has the TaylorMade Tour Preferred UDI in his bag we spotted him with at the Hero, but TaylorMade tells us he has an 18-degree M3 (41 inches, Mitsubishi Tensei CK Pro White 90TX shaft). We assume he’ll choose between the 5-wood and 2-iron before tee off on Thursday. Woods is still gaming the same TGR blades made by Nike.

It looks as though he has the same Nike VR Pro wedges, as well, and of course, his old Scotty Cameron Newport 2 GSS.

The 79-time PGA Tour winner has made a switch in the driver department, however, or so his early-week testing suggests. Woods was spotted with an 8.5-degree TaylorMade M3 (adjusted one click higher) with a 44-inch Mitsubishi Tensei CK Pro White 70TX shaft. D4 swing weight, per TaylorMade. I guess Tiger is fan of the Twist Face?

Below is a sampling of our shots of Tiger’s weaponry, and check out all our photos of Tiger Woods on the range here.

Why is Tiger playing those vanilla forged irons? I bet his game would improve if he played PXGs or TM P790s…. the ones with tho jello-filled hollow heads.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
