See what GolfWRX members are saying about Callaway’s new Epic Red driver

Published

on

As part of Callaway’s new Customs-Tour Limited program, the company has released a new Tour-Limited GBB Epic Red driver. As the name implies, the club heads have “Red Dye-Clear triaxial carbon crowns,” according to Callaway, and they come with Project X HZRDUS Red shafts. The drivers, which are selling for $599.99 in a limited supply, come with red leather headcovers, as well.

They will be available in 9- and 10.5-degree heads, and with 5.5- or 6.0-flex shafts. Here are the full specs, as per Callaway’s website:

What GolfWRX members are saying

Jdavenp3: Mannnnn, I love red drivers too. Just got a new Sub Zero though.

TheGolfingFirefighter: That looks sweet!

Ksrocket: Bought one. Love the red look. Yes to me it reminded me of Nike covert which I loved the look. Hated the performance. I was fit into an epic. Liked the performance but hated green.  Fit into a M2 with Hzrdus red.  Now I get the best of both. Epic head with hzrdus red. Will look great in the bag with my brand new nike covert forged also. I would agree probably over priced but oh well. Everyone on this site blows money lol. Looking forward to my new driver!

Equipto: Not a fan of the red, really prefer blacks, greys and whites. Preferably matte at that, the shiny is just too much for me now. That said I know there are different stokes for different folks and I’m sure they will sell them out.

tj7644: I love the red look. I think that it will look sweet with the new MD4 wedges.

Lacey Underall: Love the head… but the shaft? That might be red overload. Perhaps my thoughts would change when I see it in person though.

I love the look of that big ruby red bulbous head hanging at the end of that stiff 6.0 Project X HZRDUS Red shaft. My type of driver . 😎

Just when you thought the Ugly Nike was gone, Callaway drags it back out. UGH

Tried the Epic (44.5″ w/dual wts) but went back to the Fusion Heavy (44.5″ w/12g wt). Both had UST Recoil shaft, but the Fusion was much more forgiving with off-center strikes. Epic was a bit longer, but overall results favored the Fusion.

I love the look of the Epic Red. Too bad it costs more than my entire bag!

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
