Spotted: Titleist 712U “Tour Only” Driving Iron
Titleist’s 712U driving iron is designed to deliver more consistency and control than similarly lofted fairway woods and hybrids, yet it’s easier to hit than a typical long irons.
It has a hollow, multi-material construction with a 1025 forged body and a thin 455 steel face. Its hollow construction and weight port on the toe (you can see it in the pictures below) give it a much higher moi than a traditional long iron
Titleist designed the club for high speed players, specifically those on Tour — Adam Scott, Rory McIlroy and others have used the previous version of the club, the Titleist 503i.
Like the 503i, 712U is a Tour-only product, but the feedback Titleist receives during this validation period will influence the final design and specifications, as well as determine the product’s place in the Titleist club line-up according to company representatives.
Editor’s Note: The 712U has since been released to the public by Titleist.
The Callaway X Utility was given a similar validation period this summer, which resulted in the club being released at retail, so Titleist fans should start drumming up the support for this club now if they want to see it in stores in the future.
The product was sent directly to interested tour players because of the PGA Tour’s off week, but Titleist will be on the range at Children’s Miracle Network Hospital Classic at Disney next week for a proper launch of the 712U.

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.
That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.
On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.
“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”
On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”
“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Wow. This 712U is arwsome. Try it today and I was mmmm shocked. Low and huge distance and straight , this deffo going to improve my game. To all titliest lovers who ever you are. Sure you be missing out if you don’t order or get a 712U.

again, a rehash of clubs that players have seemed to forget. Companies have done so much they’ve ran out of new idea’s or things they can do when faced with the problem of coming up with something new? “hell lets sell them the old stuff they’ve forgotten about”.
