Exotics Officially Launches New CBX Iron-Wood

Published

on

A little more than a month ago, we spotted PGA Tour players testing Tour Edge Exotics’ new CBX Iron-Woods on the range at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational. Now, we know all the details on the company’s latest utility irons.

The CBX Iron-Woods are designed as an alternative to a golfer’s hybrids or long irons. Their hollow-bodied design gives them an iron-like look, but their unique, rounded soles helps them glide through the turf like a hybrid.

What the CBX Iron-Woods are really about, however, is distance. The utility irons offer a new, L-shape club face design that features a high-tensile HT-980 steel. It pushes the CT (characteristic time) of the clubs, and measurement of spring-like effect, to the legal limit set by the USGA, according to Exotics. The bottom of the L-shape club face also acts as a “hinge,” allowing the entire club face to flex at impact. The design allowed Exotics to make the leading edge of the club thinner, promoting more consistent distance on shots contacted across the club face.

“Our test results show that achievement of the maximum CT measurement produces irons one club stronger than current distance irons, which makes the [CBX Iron-Woods] a great replacement for hybrids,” the company said in a press release.

The CBX Iron-Woods will begin shipping on September 12 in four lofts: 2 iron (17 degrees), 3 iron (19 degrees), 4 iron (22 degrees) and 5 iron (25 degrees). They will come in two finishes: Stainless Steel ($199.99) and limited-edition Black Peal ($249.99). The stock shafts are the Project X HZRDUS series and Mitsubishi Rayon’s Kuro Kage Silver Dual Core.

Can we please find out why your edge online shop is so crappy, I would pre order these driving irons in a heart beat but can’t seem to fine anyone who offers this?

“FORGED CUP-FACE” ….. and cast steel clubhead body!
This is truth in labeling, not like TM falsely labeling their P-790 as “forged” when only the faceplate is forged.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
