Spotted: Callaway GBB Epic Sub Zero “PM440” hits USGA conforming list

Published

on

Callaway’s GBB Epic Sub Zero driver — the more forgiving, yet deeper-faced option in the GBB Epic driver series — has made waves on professional golf Tours, and it also garnered the most votes in GolfWRX’s Members Choice: The Best Driver of 2017. The retail models measure 460cc, but there’s another 440cc version floating around on Tour in the bag of Alex Noren.

Now, there’s yet another GBB Epic Sub Zero model in existence; a “GBB Epic Sub Zero PM440” is listed on the USGA Conforming Clubs list.20160753

What could a left-handed Callaway driver named “PM” possibly mean? We’ll go out on a limb and guess that Callaway has made a GBB Epic Sub Zero 440 driver especially for Phil Mickelson, but we will update this story when Callaway representatives provide further insight on the “PM440.”

Update: “It’s a left-handed 440cc version of Phil’s driver,” said a Callaway representative. “It’s a one-off Tour prototype that they built of his driver for him, instead of the standard 460cc head.”

I wish they would come to market with that same black/ silver or black/grey color scheme versus the green/ black scheme.

    Personally I lprefer a smaller head like a SLDR/M1 430/440, 917 D3.

But I really wish a there was a pic from the address point of view, because that’s really a huge factor of importance I think.

I like the EPIC Sub-Zero much better than the Taylormade M1 which I thought was a pretty good driver. So for me and many others it is more epic than fail….

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
