A swing coach on your golf glove: GolfSense adds new features

GolfSense, a 3D golf swing analyzer that attaches to a golfer’s golf glove, has updated its iOS app to include more than a dozen new features such as clubhead and hand speed, backswing position, plane comparison and wrist release speed, as well as an updated interface.

GolfSense is a lightweight device (0.6 ounces) that attaches to the strap of a golf glove. It uses motion trackers: a gyroscope, a compass and two accelerometers to record data about a golfer’s swing, which it then send to an iOS device such as an iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch through Bluetooth. A golfer is then able to interpret this data through the GolfSense app, which available for free in the Apple App Store.

Zepp Technology, the parent company of GolfSense, specializes in delivering sport specific products using real-time motion sensor data combined with engaging mobile applications.

“Our mission is to deliver the world’s most helpful training device in golf,“ said Jason Fass, CEO of Zepp Technology. “The truly revolutionary swing analysis features in this release combined with helpful training tips, are the direct result of our team working around the clock with our customers, PGA professionals and coaches.”

From GolfSense

In addition to the 360 degree swing capture, tempo analysis, projected carry (distance) and hip rotation calculation, GolfSense 2.8.3 includes several new features including:

Clubhead and Hand speed — Now see estimated clubhead and hand speed at the point of impact to work on timing.

Backswing Position — GolfSense can now provide the golfer with an exact club shaft angle measurement at the top of their backswing.

Plane Comparison — Instantly compare how closely aligned the backswing and downswing planes are. Golfers can work to achieve their ideal swing plane by finding what works best for their swing goals.

Wrist Release Speed — A key component of the swing is wrist release, or how fast the golfer’s hands move the club through the ball impact zone. GolfSense now delivers actual speed measurements to help improve speed.

GolfSense is available for $129.99 through GolfSense’s online store. You can also buy it at the Apple Store and BestBuy, or on GolfSmith’s online store.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
