Callaway launches new Warbird and Superhot 70 golf balls

Published

on

Along with a new Chrome Soft X golf ball (which we reviewed here), Callaway has also launched its new Warbird and Superhot 70 golf balls.

“The design of every Callaway ball is important to us because each one has a fan base that wants to play better and score lower,” said Dave Bartels, Callaway’s senior director of golf ball R&D in a press release. “With the 2017 launch of these new models we hope to capture the essence of each product family while offering significant performance improvements that golfers can experience and enjoy.”

The Superhot 70 golf balls ($27.99 for a box of 15) have a three-piece construction that’s made with a “faster core and cover combination” (than its predecessor) to reduce spin with longer clubs and produce more distance and accuracy, according to Callaway. The company’s HEX dimple design is used on the cover, which Callaway says will help to stabilize its flight in the air, especially in windy conditions.

Callaway’s Warbird golf balls ($17.99 per dozen) use a two-piece construction that has a “new, livelier core” (than its predecessor) to make energy transfer more efficient at impact for more speed and distance. The update to the Warbird also includes the company’s HEX dimple design, which reduces drag for a more stable flight. The Warbirds comes in white or optical yellow colors.

Both golf balls will be available at retail on February 3.

The NFL has one ball. The NBA one ball. MLB has one ball. Why do we get so many to choose from in golf?!

because the nfl and teh mlb and nba pay for the balls…..imagine a home run hitter having to buy a new baseball..or even pay for foul balls into the stands

That makes a lot of sense. Maybe there should only be one driver allowed as well, which one do you think it should be?

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
