Here’s what TaylorMade’s 2017 M1 driver sounds like

Published

on

On Tuesday, TaylorMade released the first official detail about its yet-to-be-announced 2017 M-Series drivers. And since then, a few more teases from TaylorMade have followed.

The social media posts are intentionally vague, so we’re just speculating, but it appears that either the M1, M2 or both new drivers will use 43 percent more carbon fiber in their construction.

The two other photos TaylorMade posted to its account are a bit more specific.

It appears that the 2017 M1 driver will have re-engineered aerodynamics (we can tell it’s an M1 driver because of the sliding weight track shown in the photo, which isn’t used on M2 drivers), although the M2 driver could also have re-engineered aerodynamics.

The other photo boasts an MOI (moment of inertia) in excess of 5,000. The higher the MOI, the more forgiving a driver tends to be. TaylorMade’s original M2 driver had an MOI below 5,000, so we can speculate that the new M2 will be more forgiving than the old M2.

And thanks to the most recent post, a video of a golfer (is that you in those adicross shoes, Justin Rose?) hitting a 2017 TaylorMade M1 driver (we can tell it’s an M1 by the stripe on the side), we know what it will sound like when it’s released.

And why should drivers get all the love? TaylorMade also teased a new set of irons that we’ve spotted on the PGA Tour, which are said to be “33 percent thinner.” We’re assuming TaylorMade is talking about the thickness of the club face, as thinner club faces tend to create more distance and forgiveness. But again, all in the spirit of speculation.

Color us intrigued.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
