Snedeker’s mixed bag: Bridgestone and others

Published

on

Brandt Snedeker is a throwback in many ways. He plays fast, gives honest answers and unlike the majority of the game’s top players, Snedeker plays equipment from a variety of different manufacturers.

The majority of Snedeker’s equipment comes from Bridgestone — Snedeker carries a Bridgestone staff bag filled with the company’s J40 cavity back irons (4-PW) and J40 Black Oxide Wedges (52-and-56 degree models). He also uses the Bridgestone ball that the company recommends for golfers with the highest swing speed (105 + m.p.h.), the 2012 Tour B330.

“The new dual dimples on the cover of the B330 ball allows it to perform great in the wind,” Snedeker said.  “Even in the blustery conditions at East Lake, I had confidence in firing at pins coming down the stretch, because the ball holds its line so well.”

The rest of Snedeker’s equipment is a mixed bag — his driver, three wood and hybrid are from three different manufacturers and have shafts from three different shaft companies.

Driver: TaylorMade Burner SuperFast with a Fujikura Motore VC 7.2 X shaft.

Three wood: Tour Edge Exotics CB4 (13 degree) with a Mitsubishi Diamana Blue Board 73X shaft.

Hybrid: Ping Anser (20 degree) with a UST Mamiya VTS 100X hybrid shaft (Black — low torque).

Snedeker also plays three different types of shafts in his irons and wedges. In his 4 iron through pitching wedge, he uses Aerotech Steelfiber i95 constant weight taper tip shafts — 95-gram shafts that are engineered with a graphite core that is surrounded by an outer layer of steel fiber.

His 52-and-56 degree wedges have traditional steel irons shafts, True Temper X100s. His lob wedge, which is a Titleist Vokey Design Spin Milled 60-degree wedge, has a True Temper DG Spinner shaft.

Snedeker rounds out his bag with his trusty Odyssey White Hot XG Rossie, giving him a total of six different club manufactures in his bag [Bridgestone, TaylorMade, Tour Edge, PING, Titleist (Vokey) and Callaway (Odyssey)].

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
