Published

on

Joe Miller, a 31-year-old Londoner, won his second World Long Drive title last night, beating Ryan Steenberg at WinStar World Resort and Casino in Thackerville, Oklahoma.

Steenberg, hitting first in the finals, posted a 412-yard bomb as his best effort. Miller followed, smashing a drive 423 yards to claim the belt.

“A real honor to be standing here,” Miller said as he was awarded the $125,000 champion’s check and title belt.

Per Callaway, here are the specs of the driver Miller used
  • Driver: Callaway XR16 LD (3 degrees)
  • Shaft: Fujikura Joe Miller Prototype 3X Shaft
  • Length: 50 inches

Miller’s longest drive of the night came in the semifinals against Justin Moose when he ripped one 439 yards. Check that blast out below.

That’s 50 inches the way it’s measured in long drive (total length of club standing straight up)…which equates to the 48 inches via the USGA measurement technique. This driver could be used in any USGA competition.

Seriously, this used to be an equipment blog. Now it’s mostly garbage

If that is how you feel then why do you continue to visit the site and even more importantly, post on it, especially considering it is mostly garbage? Nobody forces you to read the articles. You should really consider starting your own site. I’m sure your audience of 1 will thoroughly enjoy the in hand pics of your Cleveland VAS irons, Bullet Hollow Point driver, prototype Alien wedges (stamped of course), and the pride and joy of your bag, your Callaway 3ball putter. You’re in depth reviews and spot on opinions will certainly be missed, but we look forward to providing you with constructive criticism as you embark on your journey of creating the perfect golf equipment website.

I am simply lamenting how the content on the site has been dumbed-down since it was acquired by Conde Nast in 2011

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
