TaylorMade to offer USA-inspired M1 driver for $799

Published

on

To commemorate Dustin Johnson’s dominate performance off the tee at the 2016 U.S. Open, where he won the first major championship of his career while using a TaylorMade M1 460 driver, TaylorMade is releasing a USA-inspired M1 driver.

Instead of the familiar White-Black-Red look in which TaylorMade users are familiar, the Special Edition offering will have a more Patriotic color scheme. The usually black portion of the M1’s two-toned crown will have what TaylorMade describes as a translucent dark blue color. Also, there is a “red T-bug alignment aid” on the crown. On the sole are red and blue T-Track weights and an American flag on the toe.

The Special Edition driver also comes with a custom Fujikura Speeder 661 Tour Spec Special Edition made specially for this driver, and has a Golf Pride Z Grip Patriot Grip. Buyers will receive a leather TaylorMade headcover for the driver, with the same design as TaylorMade staffers used at the 2016 U.S. Open.

The USA-themed M1 driver will be available on August 26 for $799, and will be available in 9.5 and 10.5 degree lofts, in regular and stiff flexes and in right-handed only. Pre-order now.

He played on the Hawaii Pacific University Men's Golf team and earned a Masters degree in Communications. He also played college golf at Rutgers University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism.

If they offered it at the standard retail, I’d make that impulse purchase for the cool colors alone. At what they are asking it’s just a laugh.

TM did something similar in 2008 with a R7 Patriot Golf Day Driver…but not as expensive…

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
