10 Revealing photos from the 2016 RBC Canadian Open
GolfWRX was live this week from the 2016 RBC Canadian Open at Glen Abbey Golf Course and Oakville, Ontario. If you missed any of the photos from this week, make sure to browse to browse all of the galleries in the links below:
We’re back to North America after Open Championship week, but not quite back to the states just yet. Canadians Mike Weir and Graham DeLaet are both representing Canada in their nation’s Open championship, while world Nos. 1 and 2 Jason Day and Dustin Johnson look to bring the title to Australia and the United States, respectively.
Geography lesson, over. Now let’s reveal some photos.
Shaft Satchel
This has to be the coolest, and safest, way to carry around thousands and thousands of dollars worth of high-end shafts. It even has an alignment-stick holder. Brilliant.
On a string
I’ll admit, I’ve never seen this drill before in my life. My best guess is that the string contraption is encouraging him to take the putter back further, and shorten his forward stroke, adding more “pop” through the ball. But I’m welcome to other theories.
Before we check your travel bag, sir, do you have any valuables we need to know about?
Oh not really. Just about 10 grand worth of drivers.
Brutal
Even on the practice green, every lip out hurts. At least this one wasn’t for 62 and major championship history, though.
Tour divots
Flat, thin and bunched. That’s how a divot pattern should look on the range. If you only get to practice while hitting off of turf mats like 99 percent of us, ignore this.
Golfbusters
This video camera setup looks straight out of the wardrobe of Ghostbusters.
The 2016 version of the movie came out recently, and judging by early reviews, I’ll be waiting for the television release.
Stay connected
If this drill is good enough for the world’s No. 1-ranked player, it’s good enough for you. Also, is Jerry Kelly yawning or screaming in the background?
I’ll give you 100 guesses: Who’s wearing these classic Jordan 5 “Dunk from Above” shoes?
Did you guess Fluff, Jim Furyk’s longtime caddie, and former caddie for Tiger Woods? Me neither.
Geaux Tigers
Here’s an awesome custom LSU-inspired paint job from alum Ben Taylor, and check out his full WITB here.
Never forget
In the year 2000, Tiger Woods did a lot of special things in the world of golf. But perhaps his greatest feat was hitting a 6-iron from 200 yards out of a fairway bunker on the 18th hole at that year’s Canadian Open, which was also held at Glen Abbey.
There’s some stiff competition, but that may just be the greatest shot he’s ever hit, even though as he said, “I didn’t even hit the green.”

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping
Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.
That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.
On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”
On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”
“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.
