TaylorMade-adidas Golf Company Reports Huge Q2

$514.7 Million Second Quarter Boosts First-Half Sales
to Company-Record $1.02 Billion

Herzogenaurach, Germany / Carlsbad, California (August 2, 2012) — TaylorMade-adidas Golf (TMaG), the largest and most profitable golf equipment, apparel and footwear company in the world comprised of four powerful brands (TaylorMade, adidas Golf, Ashworth and Adams), today announced global sales of $514.7 million in the second quarter of 2012 — a 25% increase over the prior year on a currency-neutral basis.

TMaG’s strong second-quarter showing elevated its first-half sales to $1.02 billion (+29% over last year), making it the best first-half, in terms of sales, in the company’s 33-year history.

The company’s strong Q2 success was based on growth in all categories, with metalwoods, irons, putters and footwear all recording growth rates above 20%.

In terms of first-half 2012 sales, TMaG experienced currency-neutral, year-over-year growth in metalwoods (+25%), irons (+37%), putters (+29%), balls (+16%), footwear (+29%), apparel (+9%) and bags (+110%).

“Part of our definition of being a great golf company is to make every product we bring to the marketplace the best in its class,” said Mark King, TMaG CEO and President. “With that in mind, we’re very pleased to have recorded significant sales growth in all of our key product categories in the second quarter and the first half of 2012. That kind of balanced excellence is an indicator that our methods of product development, marketing, sales and service are strong across all four of our brands.”

Marketing doesn’t walk the course or make the shot, its just you and what you’ve brought along. If something works, people see; if somethings stays in the bag, friends notice.

Last year I picked up a pair of Adidas golf shoes and a TM carry bag to replace an Adidas whose legs failed way too soon. The shoes are comfy as hell and look like they’ll do another 60 rounds. The bag wears better than my old Sun Mountain and still looks new. I’ve probably logged 200 rounds with their irons; they made an instant difference in distance and trajectory, my first experience hitting good looking golf shots with irons.

Their products work and they last. I’m not surprised others feel the same.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
