Spotted: TaylorMade Spider OS and OS CB putters

Published

on

We spotted two new putters from TaylorMade at the 2015 Shriners Open on Tuesday; the Spider OS and Spider OS CB.

Both have milled inserts, a slew of visual effects to help alignment and the familiar TaylorMade Spider head shape with wings for stability. It appears from the photos the OS CB is slightly larger, and judging by labels on the putter, weighs about 400 grams. The OS, on the other hand, looks a little smaller and weighs about 355 grams.

Check out more photos below, and see what GolfWRX members are saying about TaylorMade’s new putters in the forums.

If MOI and forgiveness is the goal here, why make a smaller one?

Jason Day might have something to do with making a smaller one…

Its probably because the cb model is counterbalanced and with a smaller lighter head the effect of the counterbalance is more effective and noticeable.

Do you think the OS model is more comparable to what Jason Day has been successfully using?

No real tech improvement over the orig. Spider Vicino and others. Save you money unless you aesthetic change.

I really like the looks of this one compared to the prior DDL and Spiders. Paint looks a lot better and more in line with the DDL+. Unfortunately it will probably be $300.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
