Lower bounce K Grind now available on WedgeWorks
Maybe you missed Vokey’s limited release of the Links K on WedgeWorks on July 15. If you did, Vokey is giving you another shot with its new lower-bounce K Grind wedges.
The new wedges are available in four lofts (54, 56, 58 and 60 degrees), and their release allows golfers to buy a sand-wedge loft K Grind wedge (54-10, 56-10) from the company. The lob wedges (58-06, 60-06) use only 6 degrees of bounce, and for that reason they’re preferred by several big-name players on the PGA Tour including Jason Dufner and Adam Scott.
Here’s how they’re different.
Like the SM5 K Grind wedges, which are available in 58-11 and 60-11, the WedgeWorks exclusive model has a sole grind that is wider and more cambered than any other Vokey grind. That makes the wedges extremely easy to use from the bunker. Unlike the stock model, however, the new lob wedges only have 6 degrees of bounce. That improves their versatility in hard, tight fairway conditions.
[quote_box_center]”They have been a wonderful addition to the line and a miracle club for players with bunker issues,” said Vokey Tour Rep Aaron Dill. “The U.S. Open was the perfect place to have players test them because the bunkers were soft and grounds were hard as a rock. Bob [Vokey] and I knew how important bounce was, but I think the K for me was a real eye opener because it made me realize that bounce in the right spots was key as well.”[/quote_box_center]
The new wedges have Vokey’s Spin Milled TX3 grooves, and sell for $180 on WedgeWorks. A choice of 8-character stampings, a BV Wings grip, a WedgeWorks shaft band, snow stampings, toe engravings, shaft laster etching and custom grip, shaft and ferrule options are available for an upcharge.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping
Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.
That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.
On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”
On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”
“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Not necessarily, they are wide with camber. Unlike the links K, which has no camber. I’d buy some if they were offered in a raw finish.

I’ve been dying to try a K grind out. Fairways are super soft up here in Michigan.

Ummmmmm, they have LOW bounce, which makes them good for firm conditions, NOT soft.
