FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
June 5, 2012

FORT WORTH, TX – June 4, 2012 –
UST Mamiya, maker of the world’s finest carbon fiber golf shafts – has promoted Michael Guerrette to Vice President of Product Research and Tour Development.

In his expanded role, Guerrette will manage all aspects of UST Mamiya’s TOURSPX Technology Lab where all new product concepts are generated. He will also be responsible for the development and testing of new shaft designs, materials and production technologies for the next generation of high performance golf shafts. Guerrette will also manage UST Mamiya’s tour staff and coordinate development efforts on Tour while working closely with world class players in gathering performance feedback on new product concepts. The golf shafts that come out of the lab will make it directly on tour and to our TOURSPX certified dealer network. This has added value to the product line, expanded the visibility on tour products and has raised the perception of the UST Mamiya brand.

“Since arriving at the company in January 2010, usage of our golf shafts have risen on the PGA, Nationwide and Champions Tour,” says Gene Simpson, COO of UST Mamiya. “Mike has been instrumental in our TOURSPX technology lab where the development of PROFORCE VTS (torque) and ATTAS elements (mid-stiffness) came to fruition for our tour players and consumers.”

“We continue to push the engineering boundaries with our golf shafts and seeing great results out on Tour,” says Michael Guerrette. “The greatest reward is seeing our products accepted by our customers who continue to make us the #1 aftermarket golf shafts 5 years running.”

All UST Mamiya carbon-fiber shafts are made using handcrafted, repeatable production techniques that incorporate world-class engineering and premium-selected raw materials. This combines with tight tolerances, constant taper design and low-resin content to enhance feel during the golf swing.

The company produces a variety of shaft models, including the renowned Proforce and ATTAS lines, which have received significant usage on major professional tours internationally. Paralleling its achievements at the professional level, the company’s shafts have remained the top-selling aftermarket option in the United States the past five years.

Knowing that every golfer who installs a new shaft will also need a grip, UST Mamiya offers a line of premium offerings, with groundbreaking new models being introduced in 2012. They include Tour PC, Soft Touch, Comp DV2 Torsion, Pro DV2 Torsion Cord, and ST1putter grips.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
